Tadao Baba's brain child, The 1992 CBR900 RR ruled the sports class segment with its new 893 cc motor with its incredibly1992-cbr900rr-firebladely low weight and class handling.The 893 cc inline four cylinder motor reaped 122 bhp @ 10500 rpm and delivered a torque of 88 Nm @ 8500 rpm. Its 16 inch front wheel hit the controversy, but with this Honda Motorcycle's started targeting road riders kick starting the modern liter class sports bike overtaking the then 750 cc sports segment. The CBR 900RR had a a drilled lower fairing and cowl which claimed a drastic improvement in its aerodynamics and lesser weight.

With the success of 1992 fireblade Honda starting listening to customers feedback on its predecessor, H1994-cbr900rr-firebladeonda added compression adjustment to its forks in 1994. The twin round headlights were replaced for the iconic foxeye units.This new machine had a 893 cc power house delivering 124 hp@ 10500 rpm and the torque figures remained the same. weight was reduced by its minor tweaks for about a kilogram.

Around 80% of the Fireblade's components were redesigned. The motor was up1998-cbr900rr-firebladegraded to 918 cc which resulted in increase of 2 bhp than the earlier one. The 1998 variant received a stiffer swing-arm and the
frame was also modified. Yamaha too launched the YZF-R1 and the blade looked outdated with the old school look. powered by 918 cc motor, the 1998 variant delivered 128 hp @ 10500 rpm and 92 Nm torque @ 8750 rpm. With all the mods the machine weighed 180 Kg.

With th2000-cbr900rr-firebladee Yamaha YZF-R1 released, Honda had to take over the competitor. The 2000 variant had a larger capacity motor of 929 cc with furl injection. The entire frame assembly was redesigned and the swing-arm was now mounted on the rear of the engine case. The front wheel was a 17 inch front wheel. The 929 cc engine delivered 152 bhp @ 10750 rpm and a higher torque of 103 Nm @ 900 rpm and the weight was brought down to 170 kg.

This variant was the last Fireblade series on which Tadao Baba worked on. As an additional boost
towards CBR fireblade's up-gradation, Suzuki came up with a 160 hp GSX-R 1000. Honda came up with a minor tweak. The bore dia was increased by 1 mm increasing the capacity to 954 cc. The inline four 954 cc motor delivered 154 hp @ 10750 rpm and 105 Nm@ 9000 rpm. Weight was brought down to 168 kg.

With the liter class bikes gaining importance it was time for Honda to make a real impact on the segment. With the help of H2004-cbr1000rr-firebladeRC Honda came up with a 998 cc engine which delivered 169 bhp @ 11250 rpm. The frame assembly was completely replaced, the new one was borrowed from RC 211v racer. The
conventional swingarm was replaced by Unit Pro-Link swingarm. Radial brakes and under seat exhaust was a remarkable mod. Honda also implemented Honda's Electronic steering damper. The new machine delivered a promising 115 Nm torque at 10000 rpm with the compromise in weight with an addition of 8 Kg. The new machine now weighed 176 kg and the new swingarm increased the wheel base to 7 mm compared to the earlier 1400 mm.

Negative feedback on lack of charm about the 2004 version of fireblade, it was time for further development in the transmission layout. The final gearing was tweaked to achieve better acceleration, piston and head was also altered accordingly to increase the output.With the competitors also bringing radical upgrades, the 2006 CBR failed to grab attention.The 998 cc delivered 172 hp@ 11250 rpm, and 116 Nm @ 10000 rpm, the weight remained same despite of minor tweaks.

Honda added electronically controlled ABS and titanium valves aiming at better braking and durability. With the competition2008-cbr1000rr-fireblade among the liter class segments Honda now had to redesign the total machine. Aerodynamics was improved and forged piston was introduced. Back Torque limiter was a key addition. The entire frame was redesigned and the machine was now among one of the competitor in the liter class segment. The tweaked 998 cc inline 4 delivered 175 hp @ 12000 rpm and 115 @ 8500 rpm. Weight was increased by additional 3 kg, leaving the total weight at 179 kg.

With no remarkable changes or technical advancements during 2010/11 , the 2012 series improved the look and stability. The 12 spoke wheel and LCD speedo display was a bullseye. Showa shocks and Showa big piston Forks promised stability. The specs remained the same as the motor was left untouched.

The most powerful fireblade received a lighter sub-frame. The ported valves and new exhaust headers delivered a remarkable 180 hp of power. Ohlin's suspension at front and Brembo calipers was brought in focusing at enhanced comfort, stability and braking efficiency. The 2014 fireblade also received a HRC paint job and a TT special edition was also built in 2016. The 2016 Blade delivered 180 hp @ 12000 rpm and the torque remained unchanged at 115 Nm @ 8500 rpm making it the most powerful fireblade machine till date.
